What is Hospice?
Hospice is a philosophy of care that emphasizes immediate attention to a patient’s comfort during a very important time of life. The scope of Angel Hospice services extends beyond our patients’ medical care by also providing emotional and spiritual guidance and support to both patients and families. Angel Hospice partners with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide the best possible care. If your or someone you care for has an advanced illness and is experiencing any of these conditions or situations, it may be an indication that a hospice referral is appropriate:
The 4 Levels of Hospice Care
Routine Home Care
The most common level of hospice care. Patients elect to receive hospice services from their residence. This includes assisted living facilities and nursing homes.
General Inpatient Care
Recommended to patients with difficulty managing symptoms and pain control. Patients receive treatment in a hospital, hospice facility, or a nursing home.
Continuous Home Care
Allows terminally ill patients to remain in their home. Direct care system management and pain control provided anywhere between eight and 24 hours a day.
Inpatient Respite Care
Five consecutive day or less temporary relief to a patient’s caregiver to guarantee a patient’s needs are met 24 hours a day. Available at a hospital, hospice facility, or a long-term care facility.
What is the Appropriate Level of Hospice Care for Your Loved One?
The best way to determine the necessary level of hospice care for yourself or a loved one is to talk to a medical professional. All levels provide nursing services, physician services, health aide services, medication, medical equipment and supplies. It’s possible to experience one or all levels of hospice care depending on the patients need as well as the duration of treatment.
